Chapel Hill is in North Carolina, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Chapel Hill follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Small park with a lot of great trees, plants, and shrubs. If you are looking for any inspiration for your garden check it out. They have markers to identify and bookmark in your photos for yourself.

It’s a treat to be in the “city” of Chapel Hill, and stumble into the tucked away gem of Coker Arboretum. This tiny botanical garden contains a wide diversity of specimen trees, shrubs, and other flowering perennial plants; some native, and some exotic from far away lands. Despite its small size, the arboretum includes multiple habitats, from woodland, stream side, to meadowland. The luscious beauty couldn’t hide the unkempt conditions of the garden rooms. Plant colonies were encroaching on and between other species, and a plethora of weeds were competing for the scarce resources of water and nutrients. Widow-makers and larger boughs hung dead while playing guessing games of “when the bough breaks.” I know the UNC administration has classified direct custodial staff and housekeepers as protected positions. Sadly, this most important outdoor classroom and sanctuary has been neglected; the power of biophilia once again being ignored.

Coker Arboretum is such a peaceful little gem tucked right in the heart of Chapel Hill. From the moment you walk in, you’re surrounded by beautiful trees, vibrant flowers, and winding paths that make it feel like a quiet escape from the busy world. It’s the perfect spot for a relaxing stroll, a cute picnic, or even just sitting on a bench to unwind. What I love most is how well-maintained everything is—every season brings something new to admire, whether it’s blooming flowers in the spring or colorful leaves in the fall. It’s also a great place for photos if you’re into that! If you’re anywhere near UNC’s campus, I definitely recommend stopping by Coker Arboretum. It’s simple, beautiful, and just has a calming vibe that makes you want to stay a while.
